Global Budget Beaters: 3 Affordable Travel Destinations

Travel & Tourism As backpacking has grown in popularity, it seems to have become more expensive, but seeing the world doesn’t have to cost the Earth. Some of the most unique experiences can be had, not by spending huge sums of money, but by encountering fascinating cultures with friendship and respect. Some think that travelling on a budget is dull and restrictive, but this is far from the truth. Here are three budget-friendly locations that are anything but boring. Armenia Armenia is a classic, budget-friendly destination. Hostel rooms cost a couple of pounds per night and public transport is famously cheap.

Travellers on a shoestring can happily eat out for around £2 sampling some of the country’s specialities, such as stuffed vine leaves or grilled shashlik with flatbread. A day trip from the capital will only cost about £10. Don’t leave the country without seeing some of the stunning monasteries clinging to rugged mountainsides. Thailand Thailand is certainly not off the beaten track. These days the country is on almost every backpackers’ bucket list due to its beautiful beaches and world-famous parties. Despite its popularity, there are still plenty of places in Thailand where a traveller can live cheaply. Catch a Full Moon party before heading inland or to the north. Here you’ll find cheap and cheerful dorm rooms for around £2 a night along with delicious street food for less than a pound. You won’t find a nicer (or cheaper) Pad Thai anywhere else in the world! East Timor East Timor is another South Asian beauty but with a totally different feel to more usual destinations like Indonesia or Thailand. An interesting colonial history has left the country with a lot of Portuguese influences and East Timor is relatively untouched by tourists. It’s easy and cost-effective to navigate the country by public bus, making its sights all the more accessible to travellers. Food will only set you back a few pounds a day, though accommodation is a little pricier coming in at around £10 a night. Before You Go Though backpacking in these countries can be perfectly safe, familiarise yourself with key facts, such as the political situation, traveller-friendly towns and access to transport before you go to ensure your trip runs smoothly. Before you set off it is absolutely necessary that you invest in backpacker travel insurance.

Cover is not a luxury and there are plenty of affordable backpacker travel insurance policies out there. As a backpacker, travel insurance is your safety net, protecting you in case something goes wrong, from cancelled flights to stolen cameras to an unexpected illness. Backpacking on a budget is possible, and it doesn’t have to be dull. Budget restrictions should be seen as a challenge, motivating you to choose to visit more unusual and authentic places than many people manage to reach on expensive trips. The Big Bear Climb – AMGEN Tour of California in California’s Cycling Center

After a long, hard winter here in Big Bear Lake, California... and yes, this particular winter was long and hard for all of us spoiled "Big Bearians"... spring is finally just about here. We're currently in a "between seasons mode". We're leaving winter, but not quite into full-blown springtime as yet.

That doesn't mean that it's not time to start planning! There is so much to do here during my favorite season: Spring! I think it's the most beautiful time of year here in the San Bernardino mountains, and I want to give you a few quick hints on upcoming events... rather special ones... so you can make your plans and join us up here!

If you've been in Big Bear at all during the last ten years, you'll be aware that cycling... both mountain biking and on-road cycling... are now very popular activities in Big Bear. What used to be a "winter only" resort has really changed. Spring, Summer, and Fall are all now very exciting up here in God's Country... and cycling is a huge part of that.

AMGEN Tour of California: The Big Bear Climb!

One of the very special things happening here in Big Bear this year will be the AMGEN Tour of California race. The Tour of California is patterned after the Tour de France, and is the premiere team cycling event in the entire USA. It covers about 800 miles in just under a week of racing, through some of the most beautiful and challenging terrain in California.

This year, the highpoint of the race... Stage 6... will be the "Climb to Big Bear". Originally routed to begin in Pasadena and enter the San Gabriel Mountains via Angeles Crest Highway, the Tour organizers had to regroup and re-route when this last winter's storms closed much of the intended route.

As currently scheduled, the route now begins in Palmdale, California, and enters the San Gabriels from the North side, bypassing the closed highway sections. From there it follows the crest of the San Gabriels east, descending through Wrightwood. After crossing the 15 freeway, the route ascends the San Bernardino range and passes through Lake Silverwood, Crestline, then through Sky Forest and Running Springs, and then up again into our area, where the finish of this stage of the race will take place in the parking lot of the Snow Summit Ski Resort.

Now, that is on serious bike ride! Over 135 miles and over 12,000 feet in vertical climbing after all is said and done. That's enough to test anyone's endurance, but the professional cyclers who will be riding, including Levi Leipheimer and the amazing Lance Armstrong, will give it everything they've got as they race the clock... and each the finish line.

Tour de Big Bear: We Can All Get In The Act!

Concurrently with the professional Tour of California race, our little town is also hosting a 2 day event called whimsically, the "Tour de Big Bear". This is another cycling event that is designed to afford normal folks like you and I... those who don't want to ride 135 miles and climb 12,000 feet vertically in one day... a chance to view the professional Tour and take part in some relaxing, amateur... and totally gorgeous... bike rides of our own.

About Grand Canyon National Park Airplane Tours

The Grand Canyon is a beautiful geological masterpiece that's 277 miles long and more than a mile deep. Visitors normally get to see just a little part of the "crack" in the course of their South Rim journey. If you wish to get a "big picture" view, then you should go on a South Rim airplane tour.

Flights leave daily via Grand Canyon National Park Airport. It takes about an hour to finish the trip. The trip goes east alongside the South Rim. Here you get to see the Zuni Corridor, Zuni Point, the Painted Desert and more. While returning you're parallel to the North Rim and then you go left and get into the Dragoon Corridor, which happens to be the deepest and widest section of the corridor.

In the course of your journey you will see Kaibab National Forest, home to the largest woodland of ponderosa pine on the planet, and the Kaibab Plateau. The Vistaliner aircraft you will travel in is a twin-engine airplane that can accommodate 19 people. It's climate-controlled and contains comfy seats as well as large windows. In-flight narration is offered in 16 languages, including French, Japanese and German. The recording overviews the history of the Grand Canyon plus all of its major points of interest and natural history.

Your safety is foremost. Two FAA-certified pilots are designated to every flight and each plane is outfitted with a Ground Proximity Warning system, a Traffic Collision Avoidance System and a state-of-the-art digital communication system. Air space above the canyon is strictly controlled and supervised. If weather is inclement, excursion operators will ground all aircraft until conditions are more suitable for flying.

Grand Canyon air excursions are extremely liked by tourists from around the world. Its not uncommon for these excursions to be sold out. To make sure you obtain your seats, its highly advised to book a minimum of three days in advance of your desired journeying date. Obviously, the more advance notice, the better. Same-day bookings are nearly impossible to organize except regarding solo vacationers who nevertheless run the risk of getting bumped at the last minute.

Purchase your excursion on the web if you want to obtain big-time discounts. I frequently notice flights marked down between 15 percent and 35 percent. However, to get these reductions, you have to complete your purchase online. The reason behind this is basic: Self-serve reservations are cheaper for tour providers to process. To encourage these types of purchases, travel corporations provide special campaigns.

The National Park is a massive place and youll merely experience a fraction of it from the ground. From the air, you provide yourself a fighting option. In addition you do it in 60 minutes or even less. Planes nowadays are just like flying lounges and epitomize comfort. Under no circumstances am I advising that you view the canyon only from the air. You certainly have to stroll the Park and look for several key lookouts such as Mather Point and Yavapai Observation Station. However including a plane flight prior to or afterward is the best method to come to grips with the elegance of this natural wonder.
